The Steering Commitee

The interministerial steering committee

The steering committee is chaired by the representative from the Ministry for the Economy (Directorate-General for the Tresaury an Econoic Policy, department for International Financial Affairs and Development). Its members are

the Ministey of the Economy, Industry and Employment (MEIE),
the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE),
the Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development, Territory and Coast (MEEDDTL),
the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR),
the Ministry of Agriculture , Food , Fisheries , Rural Affairs and Planning (MAAPRAT).
the Agence Française de Developpement, which is also responsible for management of the FGEF.

The steering committee meets several times a year to decide on:

overall FGEF policy, geographic priorities, focal areas, methods and resources,
identification of projects for funding, after expert advice from the scientific and technical committee
financial commitments to projects based on feasibility reports or project presentations,
the secretariat's budget.

The steering committee also appoints the members of the scienfic and technical committee.

The FGEF

The FGEF has been working to promote protection of the global environment in developing countries since it was established by the French government in 1994.
Overall strategy

Our activities are in line with the strategic priorities of French development assistance policy.
Interministerial governance

Each project or programm co-financed by the FGEF is submitted under the responsability of one of the five institutions represented on its steering committee.

ACTIVITIES

The FGEF is mandated to cofinance development projects with high environmental component in the areas of biodiversity, the greenhouse effect, international waters, land degradation and desertification, persistent organic pollutants and the stratospheric ozone layer.

Small Scale Initiatives

SMALL-SCALE INITIATIVES PROGRAMME

Created in 2006, the FGEF's Small-Scale Initiatives Programme (SSI) aims to support civil society groups in African countries working on biodiversity and climate change by providing grants to low-budget projects.
