The Secretariat

The FGEF secretariat : the operationnal entity

The FGEF Secretariat is attached to the French Development Agency’s Directorate for Strategy, and shares its administrative, accounting and financial facilities and its network of local agencies.

The secretariat's members are:

the Secretaire-General,
one Biodiversity engineer
one Climate change engineer
one Biodiversity, Climate change, chemical pollutants
one International water, land degradation and forests
one Corporate and budget affairs officer
one communication officer
three management executives and assistants.

An external expert supports the team on the ozone protection area and Montreal Protocol.

The FGEF

The FGEF has been working to promote protection of the global environment in developing countries since it was established by the French government in 1994.
Overall strategy

Our activities are in line with the strategic priorities of French development assistance policy.
Interministerial governance

Each project or programm co-financed by the FGEF is submitted under the responsability of one of the five institutions represented on its steering committee.

ACTIVITIES

The FGEF is mandated to cofinance development projects with high environmental component in the areas of biodiversity, the greenhouse effect, international waters, land degradation and desertification, persistent organic pollutants and the stratospheric ozone layer.

Small Scale Initiatives

SMALL-SCALE INITIATIVES PROGRAMME

Created in 2006, the FGEF's Small-Scale Initiatives Programme (SSI) aims to support civil society groups in African countries working on biodiversity and climate change by providing grants to low-budget projects.
