RESTORING COASTAL ECOSYSTEMS IN THE INDIAN OCEAN: A NEW FINANCING AGREEMENT

On 20 February 2020 in Mauritius, Jean-Yves Le Drian, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Hamada Madi, Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), signed a new financing agreement for a project aimed at strengthening the resilience of coastal ecosystems in the Indian Ocean. The €10 million in financing is being provided jointly by the FFEM and AFD.

PUBLICATION OF AN ONERC REPORT: “NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION”

The publisher Documentation française is today publishing an information and recommendations report from the French National Observatory on the Effects of Climate Change (ONERC) for France's Prime Minister and parliament. It focuses on Nature-based Solutions (Sfn) for climate change adaptation. The FFEM contributed to this report through a case study of mangroves in Costa Rica and Benin.

A wide range of ocean-based solutions exist to limit climate change and its impacts on marine ecosystems, both in terms of mitigation and adaptation. The contributions of science and feedback from field experiences are essential to their translation into actions, so that global warming can be maintained well below 2°C, and societies and ecosystems can adapt.
