The Sustainable Wildlife Management programme, (SWM), jointly managed by the FAO, CIRAD, CIFOR and the WCS, has just launched its website to report on the project’s progress and upcoming developments. The aim of the programme is to protect wild animals threatened by intensive commercial hunting while guaranteeing the food security of rural communities that depend on this dietary input.

Information bulletin from the Equity programme for male-female equality in west Africa

Soft solutions to combat coastal erosion in Senegal
The FFEM has made the resilience of aquatic and coastal ecosystems one of its key priorities. To this end, it’s funding a project in Senegal, Togo and Benin to develop soft solutions to combat coastal erosion. The project is being run by the Dakar Ecological Monitoring Centre (CSE), with technical support from the IUCN. France’s Coastal Protection Agency is lending its expertise to the project, in particular to help implement soft solutions and rebuild dunes. Covid-19 crisis – Strengthening population's resilience by supporting conservancies in Northern Kenya
In the context of the Covid-19 crisis the FFEM is trying to deliver a concrete response to the country's most vulnerable populations, and to the economic sectors most affected by the crisis in Kenya, an ecological connectivity project in Northern Kenya being an example. The FFEM and AFD are supporting the activities of the NGO Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) to preserve biodiversity and meet the health, economic, food and security issues that affect over 70,000 people in 7 conservancies covering more than 2.5M ha.

Aristide Takoukam: “Beyond its technological innovation, the project has encouraged true environmental citizenship”
Aristide Takoukam is president and founder of the NGO AMMCO (African Marine Mammal Conservation Organization) in Cameroon. He explains how AMMCO has launched apps to monitor and protect endangered marine species in Cameroon. The project is part of the Small-scale Initiatives Programme (PPI) implemented on the ground by the IUCN’s French Committee and funded by the FFEM.
