Our missions
The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) has been working to reconcile the conservation of the environment and sustainable development in developing and emerging countries.
For nearly 30 years, it encourages innovative initiatives and pilot projects that respond to global environment challenges and aim for environmental, social, and economic benefits. Its objective is to test solutions and learn lessons from them, and then to facilitate their dissemination and deployment in other places and/or on a broader scale. The distinctive features of the FFEM are innovation and replicability of action.

The aim is to minimise the climate impact of high-emitting sectors - such as passenger transport, electricity, cement - and land use - in Mexico and Brazil. To mark the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, the project sponsors recall its innovative nature.

FFEM Insights: Xavier Debade, expert in ecosystem restoration and sustainable forest management
To better understand the work of the FFEM, we invite you to meet Xavier Debade, who joined FFEM in July 2023 as a project manager focusing on forest conservation and ecosystem restoration. As the largest reservoir of terrestrial biodiversity, forests play a crucial role in climate regulation.
With his expertise, Xavier helps advance one of FFEM’s key priorities: in line with France’s international commitments, we aim to support zero-deforestation initiatives, the development of land, soil, and forest restoration models, and the production of data on the performance of agroecological, agroforestry, and forestry systems.

On 10th April, the French Fund for the Global Environment (FFEM) celebrated three decades of pioneering initiatives in the service of life in Paris at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Surrounded by its institutional guardians, its historical partners and many project holders, the FFEM wanted to make this anniversary much more than a simple commemorative moment. It was an opportunity for introspection, transmission and co-construction with all the forces that have built and continue this “so special financial institution”, as highlighted by Barbara Pompili, new Ambassador for the Environment.
