The FFEM has awarded a grant to the Dakar Ecological Monitoring Centre for the implementation of a coastal risk management project in Benin, Senegal and Togo.

As part of the launch of the WACA platform in Senegal from 7 to 9 November 2018, the director of the French Development Agency in Dakar signed, on behalf of the FFEM, alongside the director general of the Dakar Ecological Monitoring Centre (CSE), a €1.3 million funding agreement for the implementation of this project.

The project aims to consolidate and sustain the progress made in coastal observation mechanisms at regional and national level in order to influence public policy on coastal risks and coastal zone management. It also intends to launch a series of pilot activities in the field, in the form of soft coastal protection solutions. These nature-based solutions appear to be relevant for combating and adapting to coastal risks.

The FFEM's contribution is part of the WACA programme, supported by the World Bank. The regional WACA (West Africa Coastal Areas) programme, a technical assistance platform for sustainable coastal development in West Africa, works to combat coastal erosion and flooding.
