Evalution Summury of Compensation for damage to ecosystems and biodiversity project (COMBO)
Published on

The project was part of an international program targeting four African countries—Madagascar, Guinea, Mozambique, and Uganda—due to their exceptional biodiversity and the rapid growth of highimpact economic sectors in those regions. Its aim was to define an institutional framework and
compensation mechanisms to achieve no net loss of biodiversity, while also generating additional funds for conservation. Ecological compensation is defined as a set of actions to benefit natural habitats and wild species that offset the damage caused by projects when such damage could not be sufficiently avoided or reduced. It forms part of the “Avoid, Reduce, Compensate” (ARC) sequence, known as the mitigation hierarchy.
