Feedback on the morning-debate "For a resilient city"
This morning, our partner CITY Linked brought together public actors, experts, practitioners and institutions committed to reflect together on the levers of urban resilience.
The event also marked the release of 2 new publications:
- Trajectory ZAN: Return to ZZANie or Area To Negotiate? — a thorough analysis of possible paths to achieve net zero artificialization.
- Lines of Vi(ll)es in partnership with others with the FFEM—a work on the transformation of urban fabrics, new uses and guidelines to rethink cities facing multiple crises.
These resources, soon available online, have fuelled rich exchanges on how cities can anticipate shocks, adapt and remain liveable in a context of strong transition.
Focus on the intervention of the FFEM Secretary General: nature-based solutions for coastal cities
The FFEM through its Secretary General, Stéphanie Bouziges-Eschmann, provided operational insights from pilot projects conducted in developing countries, highlighting the key role of ecosystems as tools for resilience.
- Nature-based solutions such as through the "Mangroves" project in Costa Rica and Benin. The Secretary-General discussed these approaches that show the ability of mangroves to reduce coastal erosion, dissipate wave energy, protect vulnerable urban areas and restore biodiversity and essential ecosystem services.
- Soft solutions on the Langue de Barbarie in Senegal via the "Waca" project and the use of typhavelles, a natural approach to reconstitute the dune cordon, restore the beaches and sustainably strengthen the protection of coastal neighborhoods.

Ecosystems protect cities... and inspire responses in France
Mangroves, dunes and sand banks are natural buffer zones that can mitigate risks and strengthen the resilience of coastal cities.
A strong message was emphasized: The solutions tested in the South are now inspiring actions in France, and nurture valuable reciprocal learning in the fight against erosion and adaptation to climate change.
