Mangroves Initiative - Benin Mission (February-March 2023)

After the postponement of previous missions due to COVID, a new mission in Benin was held from February 27 to March 5, with the participation of several actors of the initiative. Organized by Ebénézer Houndjinou from the NGO CORDE, it included the participation of Janique Etienne (FFEM), Moussa Sall (CSE), Claudia Agraz (EPOMEX, Mexico), Issa Sakho (Amadou Mahtar Mbow University of Dakar), Awa Rane Ndoye, and Catherine Gabrié (Mangrove Initiative). Linked to the steering committee of the WACA project, the mission made it possible to visit the restoration sites of the Mangroves Costa Rica/Benin and WACA projects in Grand Popo and Ouidah, and to assess the progress made. It also provided the opportunity to discover the mangrove restoration site in Aného, Togo, within the framework of the WACA project. The presence of the Mangrove Initiative team also made it possible to move forward on the documents that the initiative will produce, particularly the guide on mangrove restoration, the WACA FFEM 2 project, and the future of the initiative.
