Four new publications on the PACÍFICO project: Building the Blue Economy in the Central Eastern Tropical Pacific
Published on
The French Government, through the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM), is supporting the transformation of the Blue Economy in the central eastern tropical Pacific with a grant of 2.5 million euros awarded to the Fundación Pacífico.
The PACÍFICO project – Regional Marine Conservation in the Central Eastern Tropical Pacific – aims to strengthen the management of marine biodiversity in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Panama. This regional initiative combines institutional coordination, an innovative funding mechanism and support for sustainable Blue Economy initiatives.
To translate this vision into concrete action, the project has established a rigorous process for selecting pilot initiatives, carried out an in-depth mapping of regional stakeholders, and analysed existing best practices across the four countries. This work has led to the design of a regional support mechanism for the Blue Economy, offering technical assistance, capacity building, project acceleration and capital mobilisation.
This work aims to foster initiatives capable of attracting investment, generating demonstrable environmental and social benefits, and supporting coastal communities whilst preserving the marine ecosystems of this region of global importance.
