The Pot@maï project implements an innovative solution combining hydropower and solar energy to supply essential services in rural areas. Building on the successful results of the first phase, the project now enters its second stage, marked by the commissioning of the first hydropower barge manufactured in Congo and operated by a 100% Congolese team — a major step towards local energy autonomy.

Phase 2 builds on these achievements to deploy new Essential Services Units combining hydropower and solar energy. Designed with local communities to meet their essential needs to provide drinking water, cold storage, agricultural processing, and support for local economic activities.

These solutions have enabled unprecedented progress: a cold chain and drinking water production now secured for the next twenty years, as well as local production of cassava flour and peanut paste. Furthermore, women’s involvement remains central to the project, alongside the training of local communities.

Supported by the FFEM, this project is transforming daily life while accelerating the low-carbon transition.
